Medical Trade Shows UK 2027: Dates, Venues and How to Choose the Right Show

Key Takeaways

  • The 2027 UK healthcare calendar opens with Medical Technology UK (10–11 March, Newmarket Racecourse) and Digital Health Rewired (16–17 March, NEC Birmingham), runs through NHS ConfedExpo (16–17 June, Manchester Central) and EBME Expo (23–24 June, Coventry), and closes with the Pharmacy Show (10–11 October) and Healthcare Estates (19–20 October).
  • Pick the show by who signs the order. Device makers and OEM engineers belong at Medical Technology UK or Med-Tech Expo, clinical engineers and NHS procurement teams at EBME Expo, NHS leaders and digital buyers at NHS ConfedExpo and Digital Health Rewired, pharmacies at the Pharmacy Show and estates teams at Healthcare Estates.
  • The market you are selling into is crowded and pressured. UK medical technology employed 196,000 people across 4,360 companies in 2023/24, while the NHS waiting list stood at 7.37 million cases in August 2026, so buyers arrive with a specific problem to solve.
  • Healthcare buyers come for evidence, not decoration. A clear one-line claim, a product you can demonstrate and a place for a quiet conversation will do more than a busy graphic.
  • Allow four to six weeks for artwork and production, because dispatch typically takes five to seven business days from proof approval and couriers deliver Monday to Friday, which matters for a Sunday-opening show such as the Pharmacy Show.

A healthcare buyer walks a hall with a clinical need, a budget cycle and very little patience for anything vague. If your stand is in the wrong show, or in the right show with a message nobody can read from the aisle, the cost is the space, the stock, the travel and several days of your clinical, sales and engineering staff, all at a time when the NHS is working through a waiting list of 7.37 million cases as of August 2026, according to the British Medical Association’s analysis of NHS England data.

This guide sets out the medical trade shows UK exhibitors and visitors should have in the diary for 2027: dates, venues, who each show suits and what to check before you commit. It is written for exhibitors choosing where to spend a budget, and it works equally well for buyers planning which halls to walk.

Medical trade shows in the UK at a glance (2027)

The table lists shows with 2027 dates published on their organisers’ websites at the time of writing (23 October 2026). Several organiser pages still carry 2026 details in places, so confirm dates and venues on the official page before you book travel or ship graphics.

Show 2027 dates Venue Best for
Medical Technology UK 10–11 March Newmarket Racecourse Medical device design, development and manufacturing; OEM engineers and procurement
Digital Health Rewired 16–17 March NEC Birmingham Digital health suppliers selling to NHS leaders and care providers
UKIO (UK Imaging and Oncology Congress) 7–9 June Liverpool Imaging and radiotherapy suppliers and professionals
NHS ConfedExpo 16–17 June Manchester Central NHS leaders, commissioners and senior decision makers
EBME Expo 23–24 June Coventry Building Society Arena, Coventry Medical equipment sold to clinical engineers, NHS procurement and hospital teams

The Pharmacy Show 10–11 October NEC Birmingham Pharmacy owners, wholesalers and buyers
Healthcare Estates 19–20 October Manchester Central Healthcare estates, facilities and engineering teams

A few well-known events, including dental and care-sector shows, are left out because their organisers’ pages did not show confirmed 2027 dates at the time of writing. Check those organisers directly if your buyers sit there.

What the UK healthcare market tells exhibitors in 2027

The NHS is the buyer most stands are aimed at

The BMA’s analysis puts the waiting list at 7.37 million cases, covering about 6.24 million individual patients, with around 2.56 million of those patients waiting more than 18 weeks. That backlog shapes what trusts buy: capacity, diagnostics, digital tools and anything that frees clinical time.

EBME Expo’s exhibition manager frames the opportunity in budget terms, as an exhibitor’s pitch rather than an independent forecast:

β€œThe NHS in England budget for 2026-27 is in excess of Β£215 billion.”

β€” Sunel Ahmed, Exhibition Manager, EBME Expo

Source: HealthTech Digital, EBME Expo 2026 preview

The same statement says Β£64 billion is being invested through the NHS New Hospitals Programme. Both are organiser claims quoted in a press article, so treat them as context and check the underlying government figures before you use them in your own sales material.

UK medtech is large, and it imports more than it exports

Office for Life Sciences estimates show UK medical technology had 4,360 companies, 196,000 employees and Β£48.0 billion of turnover in 2023/24.

The trade picture is less comfortable. Government competitiveness indicators record UK medtech exports of Β£10.1 billion and imports of Β£15.5 billion in 2023, a trade deficit of Β£5.4 billion. For an exhibitor, that means buyers have plenty of foreign competitors to compare you with, and a stand that explains where you are made and why that matters has something to say.

The top UK medical trade shows for 2027

Medical Technology UK: 10–11 March 2027, Newmarket Racecourse

Medical Technology UK describes itself as the specialist exhibition for medical device design, development and manufacturing. The organisers’ page lists the 2027 edition at Newmarket Racecourse on 10 and 11 March and says it is aimed at medtech engineers, supply chain and procurement staff and senior OEM executives. Visiting the exhibition and its Learning Programme is free with registration, and stands are booked through the organiser.

The page gives no visitor or exhibitor numbers, and its search description still refers to a 2026 edition in Coventry, so ask for audited figures and written confirmation of the venue before you pay. This is an engineering audience, so a portable exhibition display that carries a product diagram and a clear specification summary will serve you better than a lifestyle image.

Digital Health Rewired: 16–17 March 2027, NEC Birmingham

Digital Health Rewired runs in Hall 2 at the NEC on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 March 2027, from 8:30am to 5:30pm on the first day and 8:30am to 5:00pm on the second. The organisers’ listing says the event gathers NHS leaders, care providers, researchers, academics, start-ups, suppliers and innovators, which makes it the natural home for software, data and connected-care companies.

No attendance or exhibitor numbers are published on the page checked. Software stands rely on screens, so confirm the monitor size and weight before you design the frame.

UKIO: 7–9 June 2027, Liverpool

The UK Imaging and Oncology Congress is a professional conference with an exhibition floor. The Society of Radiographers’ save-the-date notice gives the 2027 dates as 7 to 9 June in Liverpool. It does not publish attendance or exhibitor figures, and the page does not say how stands are sold, so contact the organisers for the exhibitor prospectus before you plan a build.

Imaging and radiotherapy suppliers will find a focused audience here.

NHS ConfedExpo: 16–17 June 2027, Manchester Central

NHS ConfedExpo is the largest health and care conference on this list. It runs at Manchester Central on 16 and 17 June 2027. The organisers’ page lists 7,000+ attendees, 2,100+ senior decision makers, 600+ speakers and 200+ partners and exhibitors, without labelling the year, although the surrounding content refers to the 2026 event.

Earlier coverage gives a different picture: PharmaTimes reported about 9,000 attendees at the 2025 event, including more than 5,000 health and care leaders and over 150 exhibitors. Organisers count differently from year to year, so ask for audited figures. Ticket prices are not listed on the page checked.

This is a leadership audience more than a product-testing one. A tidy shell scheme or modular stand with a single clear promise, plus a place for a short private conversation, suits delegates who walk between sessions with a narrow window.

EBME Expo: 23–24 June 2027, Coventry Building Society Arena

EBME Expo is the show for medical equipment sold into NHS hospitals. Its 2027 page lists 23 and 24 June at the Coventry Building Society Arena, free registration for visitors and an audience of biomedical and clinical engineers, procurement managers, NHS Supply Chain buyers, theatre and IT leads, importers, distributors and NHS trusts.

The page cites over 3,000 industry professionals and 270+ exhibitors without dating the figures, and says the 2027 exhibitor list will be published soon. The organisers report that in 2025 its visitors were 34% clinical engineers, 17% theatre and IT leads, 15% procurement teams, 14% importers and distributors and 13% NHS Supply Chain, so the stand’s job is to make your product category obvious from the aisle. A printed counter gives you a place for spec sheets and a demonstration unit, so conversations can start without someone having to hunt for a surface.

Med-Tech Expo: 15–16 September 2027, NEC Birmingham

Med-Tech Expo is aimed at suppliers and technology providers for medical device manufacturers. Its page lists Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 September 2027 in Hall 3A at the NEC and describes networking with 4,000 designers, engineers, innovators and manufacturers. It names buyer organisations that include Stryker, Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic. A header image on the page still refers to June 2025, so confirm the 2027 dates with the organiser before you book.

If you sell components, contract manufacturing, packaging, materials or software to device makers, this is your audience. A backlit display makes small components and diagrams legible across a hall.

The Pharmacy Show: 10–11 October 2027, NEC Birmingham

The Pharmacy Show opens on Sunday 10 October 2027 at the NEC, from 09:00 to 18:00, and closes on Monday 11 October at 16:30. The organisers pitch it as a way to reach thousands of pharmacy owners, wholesalers, buyers, distributors and decision-makers. Attendance is free for UK-registered healthcare professionals, and patients, undergraduates and under-18s are not admitted.

The page gives no readable visitor figures, and some text still refers to 2026 dates. Because the show opens on a Sunday, plan for delivery of your display the week before. Pharmacy buyers want to see the shelf and the counter, so a brochure and tablet stand on your stand lets them handle leaflets or watch a product demo without crowding your staff.

Healthcare Estates: 19–20 October 2027, Manchester Central

Healthcare Estates is the event for the people who build, run and maintain healthcare facilities. The page headline gives 19 and 20 October 2027 at Manchester Central, but its metadata, footer and news items still refer to 2026, so check the date before you commit. The organisers claim it is the largest gathering of NHS estates, facilities and engineering professionals in the UK, with over 250 exhibiting companies, and say a record attendance was announced for the 2026 edition without giving a number.

Exhibitors here sell everything from engineering services and building products to equipment and software. These buyers read specifications, so keep claims specific and let a stand layout explain what you install, maintain or supply.

How to choose the right medical trade show

Start with who signs the order

Visitor numbers matter less than whether the people walking past can buy. List your last ten orders and note who signed them: a trust procurement team, a clinical engineer, a distributor, an OEM or a pharmacy owner.

If you sell to… Start with Why
Medical device manufacturers (components, materials, services) Medical Technology UK, Med-Tech Expo Both are aimed at the device supply chain
NHS clinical engineers and procurement teams EBME Expo Its listed audience is built around biomedical engineers, procurement and NHS Supply Chain
NHS leaders and health service managers NHS ConfedExpo, Digital Health Rewired Leadership audiences, with digital health as a focus at Rewired
Pharmacies and pharmacy wholesalers The Pharmacy Show Free to UK-registered healthcare professionals
Hospital estates and engineering teams Healthcare Estates Its audience is estates, facilities and engineering staff
Imaging and oncology departments UKIO A professional congress with an exhibition floor

Set a target before you pay for space

Agree what a good show looks like in numbers: booked meetings, qualified leads, trial requests, quotations. Healthcare sales cycles are long, so a realistic target is often a qualified introduction rather than a signed order. Divide the total cost of exhibiting by your average first-year contract value to see how many new accounts you need. Our guide to what an exhibition stand costs in the UK helps you build the cost side.

Read the exhibitor manual before you design

Check whether you are on a shell scheme or a space-only plot, what the height limits are, what power you can have and whether the organiser restricts what you may show. If you plan to display or demonstrate a product that is not yet certified for sale, ask the organiser what its rules are before you design around it. Graphics for shell scheme panels must be cut to the exact panel sizes, so measure first.

Designing a stand that healthcare buyers trust

  • Lead with one claim you can prove. Healthcare buyers are cautious and sceptical, so a precise statement about what the product does and for whom works better than a general promise.
  • Show the product, not a picture of a smile. If you can bring a working unit or a sample, put it where it can be seen from the aisle. If you cannot, use a clear, close-up product graphic.
  • Plan a place to talk. Clinical and procurement conversations often involve prices, trials and sensitive operational detail. A corner with a table and two chairs lets staff have that conversation without shouting over the hall.
  • Only display marks and claims you are entitled to use. Certification marks, regulatory statements and performance claims should match your documentation. Check the wording with your regulatory lead before artwork goes to print.

A fabric exhibition display is also practical for a calendar with several shows. The frame stays the same and only the graphic is reprinted, so one exhibition display sized to your plot can serve EBME Expo in June and Healthcare Estates in October with a refreshed message. Our guide to exhibition stand lighting covers how to keep products readable under hall lights.

Preparing your display for a 2027 show

Production and dispatch typically take five to seven business days from the next working day after you order and approve your proof. Express is quoted at around four to five business days and costs extra. Your order confirmation shows the dispatch date, and if Backdropsource misses it, the order is upgraded to expedited shipping at its cost.

Couriers set the transit time, so aim for delivery a few days before you need the goods. Carriers deliver Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and someone must sign, so a show that opens on Sunday, such as the Pharmacy Show on 10 October, needs your display at your office or hotel by the preceding week. If your regulatory team has to sign off artwork, build that time in, because the production clock only starts when you confirm the proof. Our exhibition stand checklist covers packing, setup and breakdown.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Booking a general show for a niche audience. A broad conference with the wrong buyers can be an expensive way to be ignored.
  • Putting unapproved claims on the wall. Artwork reviewed late by regulatory or legal staff causes the biggest delays. Our first-time exhibitor checklist covers what to prepare and when.
  • Ignoring follow-up. Shows generate introductions, not contracts. Without a follow-up plan, the leads go cold, and our guide to trade show marketing covers how to plan before, during and after.

Your pre-show checklist

  1. List your last ten orders and identify who signed each one.
  2. Shortlist two or three shows and confirm 2027 dates and venues on the organiser’s own page.
  3. Ask for audited visitor figures, the exhibitor prospectus and the exhibitor manual.
  4. Confirm the stand type, exact dimensions, height limits and any rules on what you can show.
  5. Write one headline claim and have your regulatory or legal lead approve it.
  6. Request a free 2D mockup and approve the proof early.
  7. Tell your supplier the show date and agree a dispatch date in writing.
  8. Plan delivery for the week before the show, especially for Sunday openings.
  9. Set a meeting or lead target and a follow-up plan for every contact.

Talk to an expert before the 2027 calendar fills up

Choose the shows your buyers attend, set a clear target for each and give your approvers enough time to sign off artwork without rushing. Frequently Asked Questions

Are UK medical trade shows open to the public? +
Generally no. These are professional events. The Pharmacy Show states that attendance is free for UK-registered healthcare professionals and that patients, undergraduates and under-18s are not admitted, and EBME Expo and Medical Technology UK offer free registration to trade visitors. Rules differ by show, so read the visitor page before you travel.
Which UK medical trade show is the biggest? +
It depends on how you measure it. NHS ConfedExpo’s organisers list 7,000+ attendees, and PharmaTimes reported about 9,000 at the 2025 event, which is the largest attendance among the shows checked for this guide. These are organiser figures, so compare audited numbers before you decide.
Which show suits a medical device start-up? +
Start where your buyers are concentrated. If you sell to NHS hospitals, EBME Expo’s audience of clinical engineers and procurement staff is the closest match. If you sell components or services to other manufacturers, Medical Technology UK and Med-Tech Expo reach the device supply chain. Visiting a show as a delegate before you exhibit, if dates allow, is a low-cost way to judge the fit.
Can I use a freestanding fabric display on a shell scheme stand? +
Often not as a freestanding frame, because a shell scheme gives you fixed walls and a fascia. The usual route is printed graphics that attach to the panels, so you need the exact panel measurements. Some organisers allow additional freestanding items within your footprint, so check the exhibitor manual. Send the measurements and the finished size can be confirmed in writing before printing.
How do I get my display to a show that opens on a Sunday? +
Aim to have it on site or at your office well before the weekend. Carriers deliver Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and someone must sign for the parcel. Saturday, Sunday and public holiday delivery can be arranged for an extra charge, but it must be requested before you order. Check which dates the venue accepts deliveries, and if it will not take goods early, send the display to your office or hotel first.
